PUMPKIN STANDS
October 31, 2022 - We did a fun STEM project on Halloween day called "Pumpkin Stands." Students worked together to build a stand with straws and tape to hold up a 1.9 pound pumpkin. The results were a lot of fun as stands made with the flimsy straws were not stable enough for the heavy pumpkin unless our young engineers know the secret: "Strength in Numbers!"
In 40 tension-filled minutes, all 16 groups gave it their best shot, but only three were successful of building a stand that can support a pumpkin: Lucy & Tamu, Sokchea & William, and David & Wilson. Of these winners, the team of David & Wilson won the overall challenge because their stand was 4" off the table. For the champions, they won the Unicorn Award, 50 STEM dollars, and their picture & names on our class' "Wall of Fame." Congratulations to all. Photos taken by: Aliah & Tony |
