At the end of Halloween night, Mr. Pham had less than 20 candies left. He was about to eat them all when the doorbell rang. When he opened the door, he saw Two Bubblicious Boys (Bubble Kyle, Bubble Preston) asking for treats, so he divided his candies evenly into two piles, there was one candy leftover.
Suddenly, another Bubble came running in, it was Bubble Mateo! So he divided his candies into three even piles, and there was one candy leftover.
Just when he was about to give out the candies, another Bubble with a hideous tail ran to the door. "Twick-o-Tweet," Bubble Ryan cried. So Mr. Pham divided the candies into four even piles. Again, there was one candy leftover.

ANSWER: Mr. Pham had only 13 candies left when the doorbell rang. 13 is one more than 12, which is divisible by two, three and four, and of course, 1 candy will be left over after you divide 12 by 2, by 3, or by 4. :)
