SPOOKY-DOOKY HALLOWEEN

10/15/2022

At the end of Halloween night, after giving out candies to the creepy and crawly kids, Mr. Pham had less than 20 candies left. He was about to eat them all when the doorbell rang...
When he opened the door, he saw two Spooky Dookies (Spooky Efren, Spooky John) asking for treats, so painfully, he divided his candies evenly into two piles, there was one candy leftover.
Suddenly, another Spooky kid came running in, it was Spooky Zachary! So he divided his candies into three even piles, and there was one candy leftover.
Just when he was about to give out the candies, another Spooky kid with funny horns ran to the door. It was Spooky Maleficent! So Mr. Pham divided the candies into four even piles. Again, there was one candy leftover.
The question is, exactly how many candies Mr. Pham had just BEFORE the Spooky Dookies came to the door? (4 points)

ANSWER: Mr. Pham had only 13 candies left when the doorbell rang. 13 is one more than 12, which is divisible by two, three and four, and of course, 1 candy will be left over after you divide 12 by 2, by 3, or by 4. :)

The answer is 13 because 2,3 and 4 are factors of 12. And 12 +1 candy is equal to 13. Mr. Pham started with 13 candies.

The answer is 13 because if you divided into 2 each will get 6 and 1 leftover. Divided into 3 each will get 4 and 1 leftover.
Divided into 4 each will get 3 and 1 leftover.

It is 13 because if two people were there you can split it 6 and 6 equals 12 and you have one extra and if 3 people came 4 and 4 and 4 equals 12 and you have one extra and for four people 3 and 3 and 3 and 3 which is 12 and have one left over.

The answer is 13 because,
(6 candies x 2 people=12) 12 candies +1 extra is 13

(4 candies x 3 people=12) 12 candies +1 extra is 13

(3 candies x 4 people=12) 12 candies +1 extra is 13
